Weld Bead Profile Inspection by RF627Smart-Weld 2D/3D laser profiler

We have significantly expanded the capabilities of our popular laser system for robotic welding automation. In addition to detection and tracking functions, the system can now also monitor the geometric parameters of the weld bead.

RF631 Series 2D/3D laser scanner
To enable this new functionality, a unified "Weld Seam Inspection" Smart-block has been added to the scanner software.
This block includes tools for:
  • describing the geometry of various weld types;
  • setting tolerance thresholds;
  • real-time data processing;
  • accumulating inspection data and generating detailed reports based on the collected results.

As always, all analysis is performed directly within the scanner, based on a user-defined algorithm constructed as a graphical workflow.

The laser profiler is mounted on the robot flange or a coordinate positioning system. As it moves along the weld seam, each profile captured by the scanner is processed in real time according to the graph-defined algorithm. The system determines key geometric parameters, checks them against specified tolerances, and generates a control report.

A detailed user manual is available here (Chapter 10.3).
